With profound gratitude for a life well-lived and loved, we remember Anne Marie McPhie (née Anna Maria Emilia Benedetti), who passed away peacefully on October 30, 2024, in Ajax, surrounded by her family. Born on August 3, 1949, in Borgotaro, Italy, to Giovanni (John) and Giulia Benedetti (née Fugaccia), Anne Marie's life journey was defined by love, family, and resilience. Immigrating to Canada, Anne Marie grew up alongside her cherished siblings, Olga and Renato, with a childhood marked by family connections and joyful gatherings.
Anne Marie shared a deep and enduring love with her husband Garry, whom she married in 1973. Together, they built a life filled with adventure, humor, and unconditional support. As parents to Carla and Chris, Anne Marie and Garry prioritized family, creating a warm and nurturing home while instilling values of curiosity and compassion. Later, Anne Marie found immense joy in her role as Nonna to her grandchildren, Maeda and Zenen, treasuring every moment spent with them.
Anne Marie’s legacy is one of generosity, quick wit, and a love for life's simple pleasures. She retired early, enabling her and Garry to travel extensively, golf with friends, and savor the beauty of shared experiences. Her resilience was exemplified by her triumph over thyroid cancer at 40, and her gratitude for the many years she spent with loved ones was evident in every aspect of her life.
Anne Marie is deeply missed by her beloved family: her husband Garry; daughter Carla and her husband Andre; son Chris, his wife Lisa, and their children Maeda and Zenen; her mother Giulia; sister Olga; brother Renato; and her extended family and friends. Her memory lives on through those who knew her, inspired by her humor, kindness, and appreciation for the sublime.
