Margot Margarete Froehlich

January 16, 1931 – November 21, 2024

It is with great sorrow that I announce the passing of my mother, Margot Margarete (Gretel) Froehlich, on November 21, 2024. Predeceased by her beloved husband Karl. Much missed by her daughter Marianne, her nephew Charlie and his wife Grace and their children Emily & Ryan Harrington, Michael & Melissa Hudsonroder, and their children.

Gretel and Karl immigrated after the war and built a new life in Canada. Karl worked two jobs until retirement while Gretel looked after the home and family. After Karl’s death, Gretel found new joy and purpose volunteering at the Pickering Museum Village. She was also a partner in transporting injured turtles to rehab and other injured and orphaned birds and animals to Shades of Hope. If this were not enough, she also crocheted baby blankets through Hooks and Needles for third-world countries.

She thoroughly enjoyed months at the cottage, her trip to Nova Scotia, many long country drives, and eating out with friends at favourite restaurants.

She will be very much missed by her neighbours, her many friends at the Pickering Museum Village, and her fur grandkids, Shelby and Zoe.

Also survived by her son, two granddaughters, a great-granddaughter, and a great-grandson.

Deepest gratitude to Dr. Natalie Munn and nurses Lilia, Emma, Helena, and Shannon, as well as PSWs Tracy and Chantelle for their compassionate and kind care of my beloved mother.

Mum and Dad are now forever together. Auf Weidersehn.

Private arrangements have been entrusted to the WAGG FUNERAL HOME, 216 Queen Street in Port Perry (905-985‑2171). If desired, memorial donations may be made in lieu of flowers to the Shades of Hope Wildlife Refuge. Memories, photos, and condolences may be shared at www.waggfuneralhome.com.

Gordon A. Paisley

June 25, 1927 – November 2, 2024

Gordon A. Paisley passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at the age of 97, surrounded by friends, family, and former students in his final days. Gord was a beloved father to Craig (Sue) and Catherine (Grant); a cherished grandfather to Julia and Samuel; and a proud uncle to Jane (George) Paisley-Canning, Judy (Rick) Paisley-McLagan, and Jason Morris. A lifelong educator, Gord was known affectionately as 'Lord Gord' at Cartwright High School, where he taught English, French, and Latin, and served as Principal from 1950 to 1984. He continued teaching well into his later years, providing education in mathematics at Durham College and supporting the Durham Board of Education. His dedication to learning and teaching touched the lives of hundreds of students who benefited from his patient and encouraging approach.

Originally from Dunnville, Gord moved to Blackstock in 1950 after earning his degree from McMaster University and became a steadfast part of the community. He valued the lasting friendships he developed, particularly with the Baileys and Kytes, and the calls and visits from former students, coworkers, and friends over the years brought him tremendous joy.

Gord will also be remembered for his ever-shiny, often-red Chrysler convertibles and his love for animals, adopting many strays and frequently finding joy in the companionship of a cat on his lap.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Gord’s life and share memories at the Blackstock Recreation Centre on Sunday, November 10th from 11:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with short remarks at 1:00 p.m.
