Bernard Vianney Saunders George

25-Aug-1955 - 7-Nov-2024

On Thursday, November 7, 2024, after sunset, Bernard Vianney Saunders “Super B” George passed away after a long battle with Lewy Body Dementia in Ajax, Ontario, Canada.

Bernard was born on August 25, 1955, in Betsy Ground, Canje Berbice, Guyana, to Reuben and Kathleen George. He was the youngest of eight children and attended St. Patrick Anglican School. He began his career at the Reliance Post Office in East Canje, Berbice, later moving on to work at the Archives in Georgetown.

In 1975, Bernard migrated to Washington D.C., USA, where he studied for a year before relocating to Toronto, Ontario, Canada. In Toronto, he worked at Royal Trust and later at Steelcase. On December 31, 1977, he married Myrtle Jennifer Thompson in Guyana, and they had two daughters, Natasha and Renata. Natasha blessed him with three grandsons: Jeffery (JJ), Chauncey, and Karter.

Known affectionately as “Super B,” Bernard was a prominent DJ and party promoter, especially during Toronto’s Caribana festival, and was instrumental in bringing popular Soca and Calypso artists to Toronto early in their careers. He also loved traveling and enjoyed many cruises around the world.

Bernard is preceded in death by his father, Reuben, his mother, Kathleen, his brother, Michael, and his sister, Eileen. He is survived by his wife, Myrtle; his daughters, Natasha (married to Jeff Martin) and Renata; his grandsons, Jeffery (JJ), Chauncey, and Karter; and his siblings, Ruby Hazel, Leslie George, Louis George, Elizabeth (Gwenette) Ceres, and Audrey George. He also leaves behind sixteen nieces and nephews, as well as many other beloved relatives and friends.

The celebration of life for Bernard George will be held on November 25, 2024. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada.
