John Paul Glaves

July 31, 1981 - November 5, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Paul Glaves on November 5, 2024, at the age of 43. Born in Brantford, Ontario, on July 31, 1981, to Gerry and Germaine Glaves, John grew up in St. George, Ontario, alongside his sister Sarah (Jason Hill) and brother Gerry (Desiree) Glaves.

John met the love of his life, Mel, in 2001, and they married in 2010. They shared many happy years together, especially in Edmonton, Alberta, where they welcomed their two children, Henry and Poppy. Known for his intelligence, kindness, steadiness, and humor, John completed his PhD in biochemistry at the University of Alberta in 2011 and worked with the Government of Alberta in the Department of Forestry. Later, he became Manager of Research Relationships at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario, after relocating to Brantford in 2022.

John’s passion for hockey and coaching brought him joy, particularly with the Brantford 99ers team. He will be deeply missed by his wife, children, parents, siblings, in-laws Lynn and Ken, brother-in-law Kevin (Emily), many nieces, nephews, extended family, friends, colleagues, and players.

Friends are welcome to pay their respects at Dwayne D. Budgell Funeral Home, 1105 Rest Acres Road, on Monday, November 11, 2024, from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at 11 am in the Funeral Home Chapel. The service will be livestreamed and available online starting at 10:50 am.
