Rev. Canon Florence Ann Goodwin

December 20th, 1934 - December 5th, 2024

Florence Ann Goodwin passed away peacefully at Lakeridge Health in Oshawa, Ontario, on Thursday, December 5th, 2024. Daughter of William and Florence Goodwin, she was predeceased by her parents and brothers John Goodwin (Marion) and Ronald Goodwin.

She was a cherished Aunt to Carol Forde (Jack), Scott Goodwin (Clara), Janice Leschinsky (Fred), and Jane Norris (Jeff). Remembered lovingly by her 10 great-nieces and nephews: Crystal (Jamie), Colin, Adam, Emily (Anthony), Karl, James (Kathryn), Michael, Brittany (Rob), Ryan (Jeanne), and Joshua (Janis). She is also remembered by 7 great-great-nieces and nephews: Isla, Elyse, Declan, Makenna, Emma, Charlotte, and Claire.

Born in Oshawa, Ann moved to Brooklin at age six, where she helped her parents at the Brooklin House and formed a lifelong friendship with Lois Johnston (Harris). After graduating from the Oshawa General Hospital Nursing Program in 1956, Ann pursued further education in theology, attending Western University, Wycliffe College (U of T), and Trinity in Bristol, England. In 1980, she was ordained as the 21st female Anglican Priest in Canada.

Ann served as a hospital Chaplain at the Winnipeg Health Sciences Centre for 17 years and as Honorary Assistant at the Cathedral Church of St. John in Winnipeg, where she formed lasting friendships. Her life was filled with travel, including trips to Israel, Nicaragua, Uganda, and her ancestral Northern Ireland.

In 2014, Ann returned to Ontario to be near her family, bringing her hearty laugh and grace to family gatherings. She made new friends in Whitby and Oshawa, and her presence will be dearly missed.

A special thank you to the staff at Lakeridge Health Oshawa and Wynfield LTC for their care and compassion.

A service will be held at All Saints Anglican Church in Whitby on Saturday, January 25th, 2025, at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Groveside Cemetery in Brooklin, Ontario.

Memorial donations may be made to All Saints Anglican Church in Whitby or a charity of your choice. Memories and condolences can be shared in the online guestbook.
