Floyd Lyall Hales
July 19, 1932 - April 24, 2025
Floyd Lyall Hales passed away peacefully on April 24, 2025, in his 93rd year at Champlain Manor in Orillia. Floyd will be dearly missed by his loving wife Dora (née Westlake), with whom he shared over 70 years of marriage.
Beloved father to Lynn (Clark) Dekker, Laurie (Larry) Warvill, Glenna (Dale) Cockburn, and Judy (Ken) Jackson. Cherished grandfather to Crystal, Bob, Kristen (Andrew), Stephanie, Jenepher (Devon), Brady, Tyler, and Cam, and proud great-grandfather to Charlie, Henry, Madeline, Wally, and Willem.
Son of the late Gertie (née Eades) and Lyall Hales. Brother to Sandra (Danny) Smith and the late Keith Hales. Predeceased also by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Walder “Bun” & Marie (née Westlake) Clements and Edward “Ted” & Lorraine “Ducky” (née Warren) Westlake. Floyd will be fondly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Floyd's passion for ice fishing began in the 1930s with his grandfather Herbert Hales, leading him to become a renowned Lake Simcoe fishing guide and winter fish hut operator. He also enjoyed fall hunting trips with friends and treasured the outdoors throughout his life.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to all the doctors, nurse practitioners, nurses, paramedics, and PSWs for their care and compassion.
A private family graveside service and burial will take place at Old Stone Church Cemetery in Beaverton.
Family and friends are invited to a "Celebration of Life for Floyd" at the Beaverton Royal Canadian Legion, 517 Mara Road, on Saturday, May 24, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., with a speech at 3:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Orillia Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada, or Mariposa House Hospice.
