Shirley Yvonne Hasiuk

1937 - 2024

Shirley Yvonne Hasiuk (nee Bromell), born on June 10, 1937, to Elgin and Vera Bromell, passed away peacefully on November 4, 2024, reuniting with her best friend and husband, William.

Shirley was the beloved mother of Jewel (David) Johnston and Wayne (Karen) Hicks, and the cherished grandmother of Chris (Cherri), Darrin, Jennifer, and Dwayne. She was also the adored great-grandmother of Harleigh and Wyatt. Shirley, the eldest of her siblings, shared a special bond with each of them: William (predeceased) (Phyllis) Bromell, Theighn (predeceased) (Carol) Bromell, Gary (Joan, predeceased) Bromell, and Linda (Dayne) Lycett.

Known for her hardworking nature and enormous heart, Shirley selflessly put everyone before herself. She spent countless hours tending to her greenhouse and gardens on the farm and enjoyed canning her harvests in the fall. Ever adventurous, she could be found chasing cows in her nightgown or setting off on road trips, undeterred as long as there was gas in her tank. Her door was always open, welcoming family, friends, neighbors, and anyone looking to share a chat and a laugh.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to Kevin and Nancy, whose kindness and care meant so much to Shirley. Heartfelt appreciation also goes to Shirley's niece Deneen and sister Linda for their unwavering support and companionship over the last two years.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Shirley's memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada or a charity of choice.

A celebration of Shirley's life will be held at Union Cemetery in Oshawa on Monday, November 18, at 1:00 pm, with a reception to follow.

Arrangements entrusted to Northcutt Elliott Funeral Home, 53 Division Street, Bowmanville, ON.

Memories and notes of condolence may be shared at Northcutt Elliott Funeral Home.
