Evelyn Bernice Hawke

November 30, 1926 - April 13, 2025

With deep sadness we announce the passing of Evelyn Bernice Hawke (nee Cooper), our mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, on April 13, 2025, in her 99th year.

Evelyn was born November 30, 1926, at Cooper’s Falls, Ontario, where she lived with her parents Joseph and Gladys Cooper, her two sisters, Isabel and Eileen, and her grandparents, Albert and Christina Cooper. The family later moved to Orillia where she met the love of her life, Ross Hawke, at a dance. They were married on April 16, 1949, at St. Paul’s United Church in Orillia, and were together for 53 years until Ross passed away in 2002. They had two daughters, Karen (Edward) and Kimberley (Mark). Evelyn and Ross moved to Oshawa in 1953 and then to Courtice in 1955.

Evelyn was dearly loved by her grandchildren Michelle, James, and Andrew, and her great-grandchildren Jack and August. Her interests included gardening, knitting and crocheting, reading, cooking and baking, dancing, boating, and being at the cottage.

She had a strong faith and was an active member of Ebenezer United Church in Courtice, Ontario for 70 years. Evelyn was predeceased by her grandparents, parents, sisters, her husband Ross, and her son-in-law, Edward.

A memorial service for Evelyn will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Ebenezer United Church, Courtice. Visitation will be from 11:00 am until the time of the service at 12:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Evelyn may be made to Ebenezer United Church or Diabetes Canada. With much appreciation.
