Barbara Ann Hern

Barbara Ann Hern French of Whalen Corners passed away peacefully at Stratford General Hospital on the morning of December 5, 2024. Born in April 1946 as the seventh of nine children to Olga and Tom Hern, Barbara grew up on the Hern Line. She was known for her competitive spirit, joyful nature, and love for life.
Barbara was married to Earl for over 55 years, during which they farmed and raised their family at Whalen Corners. She was a cherished mother to Elizabeth (Blair), Andrea (Shawn), and Jared (Gayle) and a proud grandmother to Zoe, Noah, Aiden, Alicia, Kelton, Valerie, and Calvin. Barbara will be fondly remembered by her siblings Alma, Wayne, Sheila (Ernie), Alan (Marilyn), Margaret, Jane, and Joe (Marlene), as well as by many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, sister Muriel (John), and brothers Tom, Ron (Janet & Pat), and Lorne.
An active and dedicated member of Zion West United Church, Barbara also volunteered with 4-H, Girl Guides, and other community initiatives. Despite living with Parkinson’s for over 20 years, Barbara was resilient, never giving up or complaining. She continued to cook, clean, and farm until her final days. She brought joy to everyone around her with her colorful personality and zest for life.
Visitation will be held at Haskett Funeral Home, 456 Main Street South, Exeter, on Sunday, December 8th, from 1–4 p.m. Barbara’s funeral service will take place on Monday, December 9th, at 1 p.m., with interment at Zion West Cemetery.
