Stephen (Steve) George Hoar

August 22, 1952 – January 21, 2025

Steve passed away at Lakeridge Health Oshawa on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at the age of 72.

Steve was the devoted husband and best friend of Lorna (née Jewell) for 47 wonderful years. He was a dedicated father to his much-loved sons, Matthew (Teanna) and Jamie (Samantha). Steve was a hockey dad, a Beaver Leader, and a volunteer for the Model Club at the school, as well as for many sports along the way. He was a proud Papa to Marlee, Dean, Myles, and Madelyn.

Steve was the cherished son of Francis (Frank) Reginald Kenneth Hoar and Anna Teresa (née Carey), both predeceased. Born in Cobourg, Ontario, the family later moved to Oshawa. Steve leaves behind his much-loved siblings: Ken (Colleen), MaryAnne (Ted, predeceased), Stan, Frank (Lynette), and Lorraine. He was a wonderful son-in-law to Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Jewell (predeceased) and dear brother-in-law to Carol Bosman and Bram Bosman (predeceased).

Steve will also be missed by many cousins, aunts, nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors. He enjoyed boating with Lorna throughout the Trent Waterway System, exploring Georgian Bay, and spending time at his mother-in-law’s cottage on Sturgeon Lake.

Steve graduated with a diploma in Electrical Technology from Sir Sandford Fleming College, Peterborough, Ontario, in 1974. That same year, he was hired at Bell Canada in Oshawa. Steve had a 30-year career with Bell Canada, working on many significant projects, including being instrumental in installing the 911 system in Oshawa. He participated in numerous fundraising events, golf tournaments, and was a proud member of the Bell Canada Pioneers. In the latter years of his career, he advanced to Manager of Field Services.

A special thank you is extended to the nurses and doctors on the 9th Floor of Lakeridge Health Oshawa for their dedication and care, as well as the Cancer Centre team who provided Steve with excellent care and comfort. Gratitude is also extended to the Palliative Care team on 4F for ensuring Steve was comfortable during his final days. Special thanks to the Abilities Centre in Whitby for their support through their exercise programs, where Steve made many friendships over the past three years.

Loving you always, your family."
