Audrey Hylda Honarvar

June 11, 1933 – March 28, 2025

Audrey Hylda Honarvar (nee Reed) of Ottawa, Ontario, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2025, in Bowmanville, Ontario, at the age of 91.

Born on June 11, 1933, in Dulwich (south London), England, Audrey was the youngest child of Hylda (nee Fordham) and Harold Reed. She was predeceased by her brothers Duncan Reed (Newent, Gloucestershire, England) and Anthony Reed (Melbourne, Australia). During World War II, the family moved to Kidderminster, where Audrey attended a one-room schoolhouse in Rock. After the war, they moved to Swansea and Cardiff, where Audrey completed her high school education. She then attended Cardiff College of Advanced Technology, where she took secretarial courses and met her future husband, Hossain, with whom she shared a love of table tennis at the College’s Table Tennis Club. They married in Whitchurch, Cardiff, Wales, in 1954 and soon moved to Iran. In 1965, they relocated to Canada, eventually settling in Ottawa.

Audrey took immense joy in raising her family and caring for her beloved cat, Buffy, who was with her for 22 years. She was musically inclined, playing both the piano and flute, and was an active member of the handbell choir at Woodroffe United Church. Audrey and Hossain had a shared passion for gardening, camping, and traveling. Their early travels included trips between Iran and the UK, and in later years, they explored Canada, the US, UK, France, and Portugal. Audrey was also a talented seamstress and quilter, and in 2005, she and her daughter Jeanette contributed to the Canadian Quilt of Belonging, which has been displayed across Canada and internationally, including at the Canadian Museum of Civilization.

Audrey is survived by her loving husband, Hossain, and their children Jeanette Craig (Brad) of Bowmanville, Ontario; Pauline Honarvar (Mark Wilson) of St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador; and Kaivan Honarvar of Brockville, Ontario. She also leaves behind six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Bowmanville Creek Retirement Residence and Lakeridge Health Bowmanville Hospital for their exceptional care and support. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Bowmanville Hospital Foundation at https://thebowmanvillehospitalfoundation.com/donate/#memorial.
