Ruth Jeanette (Balson) Hooker

May 18, 1931 - April 8, 2025

Ruth Jeanette Hooker lived a long, healthy, and happy life. She was the beloved wife of John (Jack) Hooker for over 65 years. They lived in Kinsale, Balsam Lake, Lindsay and Port Perry, Ontario.

Ruth was born in Bowmanville, Ontario as the fourth of five Balson girls. Throughout her youth and adult life, these sisters — Velma, Doreen, Elizabeth (Betty), and Doris Balson — formed a very close-knit circle and provided the foundation of Ruth’s belief that family meant everything to her.

In retirement, beside her dear husband Jack, Ruth had the opportunity to travel extensively throughout Canada and the United States. These precious years expanded her horizons, and she often marvelled at just how many places she had been and seen in real life. Ruth and Jack had many friends, old and new, in many places.

Ruth was extremely devoted to both her immediate and extended family. Her son Wayne Townsend predeceased her. Loving children are Nancy Morden (Lloyd), Roy Hooker (Linda) (Dorothy predeceased), Gordon Hooker (Dianne), Shirley Hooker (Frank), and Diane Jones (Brian).

Loving grandchildren are Bonnie Davidson (Todd), Jeffrey Townsend (Tonya), Jennifer Morden (Cameron), Michael Morden (Carrie), Dana Johnston (Kent), Melissa Bly (Dave), Laura Heasman (Michael), Grant Hooker (Yianna), Emily Billings (Dylan), and Lauren Jones.

Ruth was blessed with nineteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Ruth loved life, all of the lush natural world around her in the birds and flowers and the sweet sounds of music.

Visitation will be held at Low and Low Limited, 1763 Reach Street, Port Perry on Wednesday, April 16, 2025 from 10:00am–12:00pm. A service to celebrate Ruth’s life will follow at 12:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that a donation to any charity of choice be made in Ruth’s name.
