HUNTER, ROBERT JOHN "BOB"
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert John "Bob" Hunter, who passed away peacefully on November 22, 2024, in his 94th year. Bob will be dearly missed by his children, Rosemary (Grant) and Paul (Bonnie), and his cherished grandchildren, Alistair, Jennifer, and Robert (Adele). He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Aldene, and is survived by a legacy of kindness, intelligence, and a commitment to family and community.
Bob was the only child of Robert and Gladys Hunter (née Cross) of Toronto. He graduated from the University of Toronto with a B.A. in Psychology/Philosophy and later earned an M.Ed. from the University of Ottawa. His career spanned many roles in education, including teaching business math, Head of Guidance, Vice-Principal, Curriculum Consultant for northern schools, and a senior position with the Ontario Ministry of Education. After retiring, Bob started a consulting business, establishing Canadian-curriculum schools in Malaysia and Hong Kong.
Bob and Aldene shared a life full of adventure, enjoying international cruises, trips across Canada, and a meaningful journey to the Holy Land. They served the United Church of Canada for many years, with Bob contributing as an Elder and assisting in various capacities. He was also a Life Member of Clan Hunter of Hunterston Castle, Ayrshire, Scotland, embodying the Clan motto, "Cursum Perficio" (I will complete the course), with distinction.
Known for his intellectual curiosity and initiative, Bob embraced life’s opportunities. Family vacations, milestone celebrations, and his willingness to take on new challenges, such as earning his private pilot’s license alongside Aldene, are fondly remembered by all who knew him. His warmth, generosity, and love for family leave a lasting legacy.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff of McCowan Retirement Residence and Scarborough General Hospital for their compassionate care during Bob’s final days.
An interment service will be held in the spring at Scarborough Bluffs United Church Cemetery. Donations in Bob’s memory may be made to the United Church of Canada. Online condolences may be shared at Newcastle Funeral Home.
