Michael (Mike) John James
March 20, 1958 - October 11, 2024
Peacefully, with his wife by his side, Michael (Mike) John James passed away at the Carpenter Hospice in Burlington on Friday, October 11, 2024, at the age of 66. Mike was the loving husband of Collette (née Badgery) for over 36 years and the cherished father of Kristian and Bryce.
He is lovingly remembered by his siblings Steve (Shannon), Trina McCormack (Paul), and Laura Bennett (Earl). Mike was predeceased by his parents Melville and Jean James, and is survived by his parents-in-law David and Daphne Badgery. He will also be fondly remembered by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Mike later settled in Burlington, Ontario. He proudly served in the Canadian Navy for over 11 years as a Naval Clearance Diver and was recognized with a Bravo Zulu from the Admiral for his recovery work following a Canadian Air Force Snowbird crash in 1989. Mike joined the Burlington Fire Department in 1993, dedicating over 26 years to the service. As a firefighter, he was awarded the Fire Fighter Medal for Bravery, and he later served as a Training Officer, mentoring many volunteer and career firefighters.
Mike was an avid Hamilton Tiger-Cats fan, holding season tickets for many years. “Oskee Wee Wee!” He was also a proud member of Alcoholics Anonymous, celebrating 5714 days of sobriety.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who visited Mike during his six weeks at Carpenter Hospice, as well as the nurses, PSWs, and staff who provided exceptional care and support during his final weeks.
Private cremation has taken place. In memory of Mike, donations to the Carpenter Hospice would be sincerely appreciated by the family.
