HILL, Joan Marion -
March 25, 1930 - October 11, 2023
With heavy hearts we announce the loss of our beloved Joan, peacefully, at home, in her 94th year.
Joan was born at home in North Toronto, the only child (blame the Depression) of Marion and Bryan Sharpless.
She was a graduate of the Dental Nursing Class of '51 at the University of Toronto Faculty of Dentistry.
That year, she met Gerald Lawrence Hill at a UofT - McGill football game in Montreal.
They married one year later in 1952. Gerry was a loving husband for over 69 years, until his passing in March 2022.
She was a dear mother to Richard Cameron Hill (Rick), and his wife, Laurie of Brighton, Ontario, and Dr. Julie Vaughan Hill of Toronto / Muskoka.
Proud grandmother of George (Heather) of Warkworth, Edward (aka Ted) of Brighton, and Arthur (Sharilyn) of Kingston; and delighted great-grandmother to Esme and Adelaide. Joan loved all animals (especially her cat, Meeka), old movies, songs from the big band era, British television (including Coronation Street from Episode One), and, always curious, enjoyed talking with strangers.
After living on Parkview Avenue in Willowdale for over 50 years, she and Gerry moved downtown to the Colonnade on Bloor Street West, and enjoyed their wonderful view of the city, including the field where Gerry had practiced football for Victoria College in the late '40s.
She fondly remembered the many family car trips, and funny incidents that often arose at Hill family gatherings, as well as wonderful overseas holidays with Gerry.
For those who wish, donations in her memory may be made to the Annex Cat Rescue, Nellie's, or Second Harvest.
