Bidner "Rick" John

June 19, 1937 – March 4, 2025

BIDNER, John “Rick” – Age 87, of Petrolia (born in Brigden), passed away peacefully on Monday, March 4, 2025, at C.E.E. Bluewater Health in Petrolia.

Beloved husband of Gisele Bidner for 64 years. Loving father of Wendy Petersen and Todd (Michelle) Bidner. Cherished grandfather to Adam, Rachel, Dylan, and Colton. Dear brother to Jim (Lynn) Bidner and uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Rick was predeceased by his parents, Charlie and Rosie Bidner, and siblings Garry (Jane) Bidner, Gayle Staley, and Linda (Bert) Shannon.

Rick enjoyed a long and fulfilling career at Dow, where he worked for 38 years. He was passionate about sports, holding the triple jump record at Petrolia High School for 30 years. In 1958, he was recognized as one of the fastest halfbacks in Canadian football.

Staying active was a priority for Rick—whether it was riding his bike around town, playing two-pitch until the age of 70, or cheering on his family at their sporting events. His humor, wit, and ability to brighten any room with his sarcasm and laughter will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.

Rick had a unique ability to connect with people, always finding common ground with strangers and bringing joy to those around him. His family will forever treasure their memories together—from trips to Florida and England to camping, canoeing, and white-water rafting. His love for food, especially desserts, will always be remembered in the Bidner family kitchens.

A private family service will be held at Steadman Brothers Funeral Chapel, Brigden. A celebration of Rick’s life will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the C.E.E. Hospital Foundation (Charlotte Eleanor Englehart Hospital Foundation) or the I.O.D.E. Margaret Stokes Chapter.

Memories and notes of condolence may be shared at Steadman Brothers Funeral Chapel.
