Memorial for Ben Johnson

Ben Johnson

1936 - November 23, 2024

It is with profound sadness that we announce the unexpected but peaceful passing of Ben Johnson on Saturday, November 23, 2024, in London, Ontario, surrounded by his loving family. Ben, formerly of Tillsonburg and more recently residing at Dorchester Terrace, was in his 89th year.

Predeceased by his beloved wife and best friend, Gerry Johnson (2019), with whom he shared 62 wonderful years. Cherished father to Wendy Englander (Steve) of London, Janice Simon (John) of Dorchester, and the late David Johnson (2016) (Helen) of Tillsonburg. Treasured grandfather to Karrie Englander (Mark Hedden), Nathan Englander (Ginny), Brianne Englander, Greg Simon (Nicole Sedgwick), Kyle Simon, Jeremy Simon (Katelyn Gow), Matthew Johnson (Jenna), and Brittany MacKay (Blair), and great-grandfather to six.

Ben was predeceased by his parents, Benjamin and Hazel Johnson, and sister, Linda Osler. He will be deeply missed by extended family, friends, and his cherished little buddy, Toby. A proud business owner, Ben operated B.F. Johnson Auto Electric and Johnson Automotive, and he was a dedicated member of the Tillsonburg Lions Club for over 35 years.

Friends, neighbors, and relatives are invited to visit on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Maurice J. Verhoeve Funeral Homes Chapel, 262 Broadway St., Tillsonburg, Ontario. A public graveside service will be held on Thursday, November 28, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Tillsonburg Cemetery, officiated by Pastor Paul Robinson of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Tillsonburg.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Ben’s memory to the “Dave Johnson Memorial Dog Park” or the “Lions Foundation of Canada - Dog Guides” would be deeply appreciated. Donations may be made via Ben’s online tribute page at www.verhoevefuneralhomes.com or by contacting Maurice J. Verhoeve Funeral Homes at (519) 842-4238.

Wendy and Janice extend heartfelt thanks to the caring staff of Dorchester Terrace for providing a warm and welcoming home for Ben and Toby.

Memories and notes of condolence may be shared with the family at Maurice J. Verhoeve Funeral Homes.
