John Kakouros

April 16, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother whose life was defined by love, hard work, and unwavering dedication to his family. John passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, surrounded by his family at Lakeridge Health Oshawa.

John is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Anna. Proud father of Frank and Chris (Shannon). Cherished grandfather of Ella & Abby. Dear brother of George (Angela), Sophia Mikrogianakis (John), Stella, and Georgia.

John will be lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, family in Canada & Greece, and countless friends.

John emigrated to Toronto, Canada, in 1956 after growing up in the shadow of WWII and the Civil War in Greece. In search of new opportunities and a brighter future, John made the journey from Greece to Toronto. It was there that he met the love of his life, Anna, while they were both working at the Seaway Hotel. Their connection was instant, and they soon married, beginning a lifelong partnership filled with love, laughter, and resilience.

In 1970, John and Anna settled in Ajax, where they raised their young family and built a life rooted in strong values and community. Together they opened “Texas Burger,” a beloved local restaurant and a cornerstone of their entrepreneurial journey. John was a true visionary – hardworking, fearless, and determined to seize every opportunity to provide for his family. He instilled in his sons a strong work ethic, a sense of pride, and the courage to pursue their dreams.

John had a tremendous sense of humor and a deep love for life’s simple pleasures. He cherished winters spent in Florida, afternoons in his backyard with Greek music filling the air, and dancing joyfully with his family. His presence lit up every room, and his laughter was unforgettable.

A devoted member of Sts. Nectarios and Gerasimos Greek Orthodox Church in Oshawa, John’s faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding his actions and strengthening his community ties.

John’s legacy lives on through the family he treasured so deeply. He will be remembered for his warmth, his passion, and the unwavering love and determination.

A life well lived. May his memory be eternal.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at Armstrong Funeral Home (124 King St. E., Oshawa) with prayers at 7 p.m. A Funeral Service will take place on Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at 12 p.m. at Sts. Nectarios and Gerasimos Greek Orthodox Church. Interment to follow at Thornton Cemetery.

As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to Sts. Nectarios and Gerasimos Greek Orthodox Church. Online condolences may be shared at www.armstrongfh.ca.
