HARRAP, George Tolhurst - Passed away in Kingston, Ontario in October 2015 at the age of 82.
George was born in Toronto in 1932, the son of George Alfred and Eveline Winifred Harrap.
He was predeceased by his wife Norma Jean (Bainbridge) and is survived by three children and nine grandchildren. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and a friend to many.
George graduated with a degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Toronto.
He spoke highly of his many mentors as a student and was a faithful alumnus, supporting opportunities for young engineers. George was happiest when working "hands on" in petrochemical plants and spent most of his career working for Union Carbide.
A pioneer in employing computer simulation in the optimization of chemical plant processes in the early 1960s, George never lost his love of computers.
His favourite pastimes were riding streetcars and trains, watching baseball, listening to jazz, reading science fiction, solving logic puzzles, and learning about the adventures of his children and grandchildren.
He loved to travel and spent numerous summers exploring the splendour of Canada's outdoors with his wife Norma, in their van Oscar. George enjoyed the wonderful sense of community of his Anglican Church, volunteering countless hours to its many causes.
Above all, George strove to be balanced and fair in all his thoughts and deeds.
Donations in George's memory may be made to Parkinson Society Canada.
