CUTHBERT, Darryl Thomas - 1940-2015

Darryl Cuthbert made the decision to relinquish his role as owner of Coneen Construction and night watchman after 56 years in the construction business on Saturday evening October 24th.

He would like you to know that his work here is done. With his roots in Lakeport and his life in Brockville, Darryl lived an adventurous life in the only way he knew how ... his way. He was a self-made man of business who believed that his word was his bond and anything else was unnecessary. Darryl attributed his longevity to never reading the Surgeon General's warning on a bottle of scotch or a cigarette pack.

For 75 years he graced us with his larger than life presence taken straight from his beloved old time westerns. His collection of cowboy hats and boots is legendary as was his love for late model cars. In anticipation of a drastic reduction in sales of Bells Scotch, Darryl would encourage you to make a sizeable purchase at your local LCBO and relax with some toe tapping, old time country tunes on the stereo and raise a glass in his honour.

He will be missed as a loving father, grand-father and loyal friend to the very end.

He was a generous soul who believed in making unexpected and unsolicited acts of kindness. If you needed a helping hand he would be the one to offer it. He worked hard, loved hard and took great pleasure in the company of his friends and family. A sly look and a chuckle would let you know his true intentions. And as for the mole that lived on the back of his neck - "if he's still there when I'm gone ... it's about time we upped his rent!"

Predeceased by his parents Tom and Betty and his older Brother Ron.

He is survived by his 3 daughters Darlene Stabile (husband Lou, children Vince, Serena and Meriah), Constance Cuthbert, and Giselle MacNeil (husband Ron, children Brad, Jeff and Ryan).

He asks that you stop by and re-tell the stories he no longer can at a celebration of his life on Sunday November 1st from 2-4 pm, at his place of business, Coneen Construction, 1512 Lyn Road, Brockville.

Applications for a new night watchman will be accepted at this time Darryl's daughters wish to extend their gratitude to the Doctors, Nurses and PCA's of Kingston General Hospitals' ER Dept, Palliative Care, and the Neurology/Stroke Team of Kidd 7 who created the safe and comforting space for him to manage his own exit when he deemed his time had come.
