George Krauss

February 6, 1936 – April 11, 2025

Passed away peacefully at Woodstock Hospital on Friday, April 11, 2025, in his 90th year. George Krauss was born February 6, 1936, in Dorocske, Hungary. He immigrated to Canada in 1953 from Germany and eventually settled in the Gobles area before making Norwich his home in 1969, where he and his wife Mary bought a farm.

Beloved husband of Mary (Wolf) for 64 years. Loving father of Ron (Bill), George Jr., Annie (Brian), and Bob (April) Krauss. Cherished grandfather of Steven (Ashley), David (Alexis), Eve (Lucas), Luke (Sam), Amanda (Rick), and Becca (Mitch). Great-grandfather of Lenna, Bethany, Abby, Benjamin, Lydia, Tegan, and Kenady.

Survived by his sister Margret Wigand of Norwich. Predeceased by his parents Valentin and Katarina, and brother-in-law Henry Wigand.

A proud farmer, George worked tirelessly in the tobacco fields and later in pork and cash crop farming alongside Mary and their children. In his youth, he enjoyed playing soccer in Germany and Canada. In later years, he loved watching Euro soccer games, ice fishing, doing word searches, and playing chicken foot — but nothing brought him more joy than time with his grandchildren.

Family and friends will be received at the Arn-Lockie Funeral Home, 45 Main Street West, Norwich, ON, on Tuesday, April 15, 2025 from 2:00–4:00 p.m. and 6:00–8:00 p.m., and again on Wednesday, April 16, 2025 from 10:00–10:45 a.m. A service to celebrate George’s life will follow at 11:00 a.m. Interment at Norwich Gore Cemetery.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Crescent Care Woodstock.

Donations in George's memory may be made to Bethany Lutheran Church (Woodstock), Woodstock Hospital, or a charity of your choice.

Memories and notes of condolence may be shared at Glendinning Funeral Home.
