Ilmars Lejnieks
September 6, 1926 – October 26, 2024
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Ilmars Lejnieks, known lovingly as Opa, who passed away on October 26, 2024, in his 99th year. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 71 years, Veronica, his daughter Cynthia, and his son Brian (Tracy), as well as his grandchildren Brandon (Rachel), Michael, Justin, Sarah, and great-granddaughter Harper.
Opa is now reunited with his parents, brother, and sister, who predeceased him in his country of birth, Latvia. After serving in the Latvian Army, he began a new chapter in Canada, arriving at Pier 21 in Halifax. Opa met his future bride on Centre Island at a gathering with friends, beginning their lifelong journey together. A proud member of UA Local 46 for 72 years, Opa’s dedication and warmth were felt by many.
The family cherishes memories of vacations, family gatherings, and peaceful times at the cottage on Buckhorn Lake. Opa's warm smile and ever-present laugh will forever remain in our hearts.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kristus Darzs Latvian Home in his memory.
