LIANG, Raymond Chi-Rong Liang - Our family is deeply saddened to announce the death of Raymond Chi-Rong Liang, who passed away peacefully in Toronto on July 6, 2024, months after celebrating his 92nd birthday.
Born and raised in Taiwan, Raymond became a parent figure to his 9 siblings after his father's early passing. He was a loving husband to Tosi (predeceased); a dedicated father to his children Sherry, Dana (Joseph Chen), Sandy; and a proud grandfather to Nicolas, Michi, Jonathan, Aaron, Olivia, Lucie, and Gemma. Raymond and Tosi met in the village of Shinhua, Taiwan, as young children, eventually attending high school in Tainan together.
The family emigrated to Canada in late-1967 after he earned his Doctorate in biochemistry at the National University of Australia.
A devout Christian, Raymond was an active member of the Formosan Grace Christian Church in Toronto. He served as an elder through many important stages in the church's history.
Raymond cherished spending time with his grandchildren. Even in his advanced age, he remained enthusiastic about activities like golfing, attending grandparents' days at his granddaughters' school, and playing with the family pets.
The family is grateful for the care Raymond received from North York General Hospital, particularly the Freeman Centre palliative care team, and also thank Greenview Residence, Liberty Talledo and Gloria Solidarios for their care. Visitation will take place at Kane-Jerrett Funeral Home, 6191 Yonge St., on Friday, July 19, 2024, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m., followed by private burial.
We will be celebrating his life on Saturday, July 20, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at Formosan Grace Christian Church, 841 Progress Ave., Scarborough.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Toronto Symphony Orchestra or North York General Hospital.
