Joan Sandra MacDougall

1937 – 2024

Joan Sandra MacDougall (nee Bowie) passed away on December 12, 2024. She is survived by her sister Patricia and brother-in-law Bryan, her daughter Lisa and son-in-law Jim, her son John and daughter-in-law Denise, and her grandchildren Meg, Jean, and Owen.

Joan was a dedicated and heartwarming elementary school teacher who taught with love and reassurance. She was a passionate advocate for children inside and outside the classroom, teaching at schools such as E.I. McCulley, Orchard Park, and Parnall. Joan and her late husband Bob were avid golfers and lifelong members of the St. Catharines Golf & Country Club, where they cherished both the sport and the camaraderie of their many friends.

She was a longtime congregation member of the Church of the Transfiguration in St. Catharines. Joan was kind, charitable, and respectful to all. As Charles Dickens once said, “...there were two classes of people, those who did little and made a lot of noise, and those who did a great deal and made no noise at all.” Joan was truly the latter.

Joan was a selfless and loving mother, a devoted spouse, and a warm and caring grandmother. Hugs were her specialty, and she left a lasting impact on everyone she met.

In Joan’s memory, and in the spirit of the season, her family kindly asks that donations be made to the charity of your choice. The world is a better place because of Joan, and her spirit can live on through your generosity. Please give.

Memories and notes of condolence may be shared at George Darte Funeral Home.
