April 9, 1952 - October 25, 2024

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Thomas "Austin" MacMurdo on October 25, 2024. Austin passed away peacefully after a valiant battle with leukemia, surrounded by the love of his family and the exceptional care of Princess Margaret Hospital staff.

Born to Hazel and Ralph MacMurdo, Austin leaves behind his beloved wife Sandra, his children Meghan (Dereck), Tommy, and Laura (Doug), and his cherished grandchildren Keegan, Mackenzie, and Ivan. Austin will be fondly remembered for his warmth, generosity, and humor.

A devoted fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Penguins, Austin shared his love of sports and activities with his family and took great pride in participating in four Ironman Triathlons. His many interests included camping, gardening, and golf with friends. Known as a handyman, he found joy in taking care of his home and spending time outdoors.

Austin enjoyed a long and rewarding career at St. Marys Cement in Bowmanville, leaving behind many friends and colleagues.

A celebration of Austin's life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor his memory may consider donating blood or making a donation to Canadian Blood Services or Princess Margaret Hospital.

"Those we love don’t go away, they walk beside us every day… unseen, unheard, but always near, still loved, still missed, and very dear." — Alex MacLean
