FISHER, Maeve - Passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 23, 2023, in the comfort of her home.
Beloved wife of Rory Fisher; sadly missed by daughter, Clare (Paul); son, Gavin (Pauline); and grandchildren, Liam, Alannah and Aidan.
Born in Dublin, Ireland, on July 6, 1937, to Martin McNamara, Secretary of the Irish Red Cross, and Muriel (née Fleming), the third of three daughters, survived by her sister, Peggy Brotherton of Kidderminster, England.
Maeve went to The Sacred Heart Covent School, Haddington Rd., Dublin. She then moved to England and qualified as a State Registered Nurse at Charing Cross Hospital in London.
She met her husband, Rory, at a party when he was visiting London with the boxing team from Trinity College Dublin. Following marriage, Maeve and Rory spent several years on the south coast of England, where Rory held various hospital posts and had their two children.
They ended up in London, where Maeve and Rory took advantage of the many theatre opportunities before immigrating to Canada in 1970.
She was always the matriarch of the family and took immense pride in the achievements of her grandchildren.
Visitation will take place on Sunday, August 27th from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Morley Bedford Funeral Home, 159 Eglinton Ave. W., Toronto. The Funeral Mass will be held Monday, August 28th at 2:00 p.m. at St. Basil's Church, 50 St. Joseph Street, Toronto. A private interment will be held.
The family would like to thank Maeve's caregivers, in particular, Dr. Melissa Melnitzer of the Temmy Latner Palliative Care Program and PSWs, Rebecca, Daisy and Eva.
