It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Doctor Stanley Mankiewicz, who left this world peacefully on Thursday, November 28, 2024, at the age of 92. Stanley was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, known for his warmth, generosity, and unwavering kindness.
Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Stanley was the eldest child of Karol and Pearl Mankiewicz. He graduated from Gordon Bell High School and earned his medical degree from the University of Manitoba Faculty of Medicine in 1956. He completed internships at Colonel Belcher Hospital in Calgary, Alberta, and at the Chatham, New Brunswick military base, specializing in urology at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal. He joined the Oshawa Clinic Group in 1961 and practiced as a urological surgeon at Oshawa General Hospital (now Lakeridge Health Oshawa) for 45 years, leaving a lasting impact on his colleagues and community.
Stanley had a lifelong passion for airplanes, model building, history, and learning. His inquisitive mind and vast knowledge were treasured by all who knew him, and his genuine interest in people touched countless lives.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Marilyn; his children, David (Rachel), Mark (Matthew), and Tim (Jamie); his grandchildren, Steven (Zoe), Christopher, Elle, and Jack; his brother, Victor (Margaret); his brother-in-law, Richard (Elaine); his nephew, Carl (Jen); and his nieces, Carolyn (Geoff) and Jessie (Carl). He is predeceased by his parents Karol and Pearl and his in-laws Wendell and Phyllis. Stanley will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.
Visitation will be held at Courtice Funeral Chapel, 1587 Highway 2, Courtice, on Saturday, December 7, 2024, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. A celebration of Stanley’s life will be held on Sunday, December 8, 2024, at 1:30 p.m. at the same location, with a reception to follow.
