James Gerald Marshall
December 21, 1929 – March 6, 2025
It is with sorrow that we announce the passing of our father James (Jim) Gerald Marshall, at the age of 95 on Thursday, March 6, 2025. Jim was the loving husband of the late Delores Marshall (née Johnston). They celebrated 73 wonderful years of marriage in 2022, having met while they both worked at CN in the late 1940s.
Jim was born in Hamilton, ON to parents Sarah (née Woods) and James Marshall, who both immigrated from Scotland. He was the youngest of 5 children. He was a devoted father and provider to his wife Delores and family of 5 children. Loving father of the late Kirk (Wendy), late Gary (Anita), Brad (Patti), Kim Giffen (David), and Lisa Marsbergen (Steve). Loving Grandfather of 8 grandchildren – Lindsay, Scott, Kelly (Rick), Lesley (Joe), Cynthia (Drew), Mike, Laura, and Denise. And Great Grandfather to Nolan, Alvin, and Jack. Jim will be missed dearly, but the wonderful memories will live on.
Jim spent his entire career at CN Railway starting at 15 years old as an office boy. He was transferred around the country in the Industrial Development division, where he met many new friends and colleagues and maintained these friendships over the years. Jim was an active member in his faith and did readings over the years at various churches, including St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Collingwood, which was Jim and Del’s final home base. Jim was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and various golf clubs throughout the years in Toronto, Moncton, Florida, and in later years, Collingwood. Jim and Delores loved to travel and spent decades of winters at their second home in Redington Beach, Florida.
The family is grateful to all the staff at both Raglan Village in Collingwood for their warmth and providing a sense of community for Jim to feel at home, and more recently at Barrie Manor, combined with Saint Elizabeth’s Health for palliative care. Our sincere thanks to Wendy and all the nursing staff at Barrie Manor and Alyssa from Saint Elizabeth’s for caring for our father in his final months.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Chatterson Funeral Home, Collingwood. Funeral Mass and Celebration of Life will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 63 Elgin Street, Collingwood in May, followed by interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Collingwood. Details will be updated once finalized, and all are welcome to attend.
Memories and notes of condolence may be shared at Chatterson Funeral Home.
