Donald Bruce McClennen
August 14, 1941 – January 3, 2025
Donald Bruce McClennen, retired teacher at Eastdale C.V.I. Oshawa, passed away peacefully at Lakeridge Health Oshawa on Friday, January 3, 2025, in his 84th year. Predeceased by Evelyn, his beloved wife of 61 years. Loving father of Bill (Lucie), Kelly (Terry Smith), and Jay (Tammy). Proud grandpa of Zach, Eli, Dawson, Donny, and Jack. Dear brother of Barb Kennedy, Marylyn Vincent, Nola Essery, Margo Tilk (all predeceased), and Linda Sellen.
Don was an avid learner with a creative and curious mind. He loved engaging in imaginative play with his grandchildren and sharing his passion for art and architecture. Joining the Eastdale faculty in 1967, Don created and taught the architecture program until his retirement in 1996. He then embarked on a second career as a glass artist, spending countless hours in the studio of the home he designed. A prominent member of the glass artist community, Don’s work was widely appreciated.
In memory of Don, donations to the Lakeridge Health Foundation would be appreciated. Memories and notes of condolence may be shared at Mount Lawn Funeral Home. For those unable to attend, the funeral service will be livestreamed. Please click here to join.

Dear Bill, Kelly, and Jay, I am so sorry for the loss of your father. I first met Don at my workplace in October 2016. He was very friendly and interesting, and we immediately bonded over several mutual interests. Over the years, we met often, talked, laughed, and shared stories. A few years ago, he showed me his fused glass art studio, and I was honored to receive a small glass art piece he had made. Please accept my deepest condolences. Sincerely, Matthew Shintani.

My uncle Don McClennen inspired me in many ways, including my post-secondary studies and love of architecture. He also taught me to appreciate the beauty of glass, both modern and antique. Don was a joy to have among the McClennen families. Take care, Wil (Bill), Kelly, Jay, and families. May his memories bring you a smile.
