Helen Lena McGriskin
September 13, 1924 – February 16, 2025
Obituary Overview
The family of the late Lena McGriskin regretfully announces her passing on February 16, 2025.
Lena was born on September 13, 1924, in Oshawa to Alex and Dorothy Rosnak and was one of eleven children. As a young adult, she worked on an assembly line for war munitions in Pickering before marrying Joe McGriskin on January 25, 1945. Together, they were dairy farmers and raised their family in Agincourt, where the McGriskin family originated.
Lena and Joe were loving parents to their children, Tom (Heather), Donna (Don), Mike (Jo-Anne), Theresa (Gary), and Collette (Danny). She was predeceased by her son Mike and daughter-in-law Donna.
In 1965, they relocated their family and farm operation to Sunderland. Throughout their lifetime, they bred top genetic Holstein cattle, exporting livestock worldwide and earning recognition for breeding excellence from the Canadian Holstein Association. Lena and Joe cherished their winter getaways in Florida, which became their second home.
After losing her beloved husband Joe in 1984, Lena continued to split her time between her home on the farm in Sunderland and Florida. With the support of her children and grandchildren, she was able to maintain the life she loved.
Lena leaves behind twelve grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren, who were the joys of her life.
Blessed with good health and strong determination, Lena lived independently until the age of 98, when she transitioned to residential living. Her final milestone was celebrating her 100th birthday with family and friends on the farm, a grand occasion filled with love.
