Michael "Mick" McGuire Obituary

With great sadness, we announce that Michael (Mick) Andrew McGuire passed away in his 71st year on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, with his wife Pat, stepson Jeff, and brother John at his side.

Mike was a loving husband to Pat, stepfather to Jeff and daughter-in-law Ashley, and a cherished grandfather to Sophia, Audrey, and Mason, with whom he treasured his time. He was also a beloved brother-in-law to David and Stuart (Valerie) Findlay and a caring uncle to David (Rosie) and George. Mike is now reunited with his fur-pals Barney, Teddy, and Charlie.

Born in Oshawa, Mike was predeceased by his parents, Francis Patrick (Mickey) and Bernadette Mary (née Foley), as well as his brother Peter. One of six siblings, he is survived by Susan Dulny (Jim, deceased), John (Maureen), Mary-Frances (Stephen), and his twin sister Maureen (Bernie, deceased). Michael also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and extended family members in both Canada and the UK.

Along with his siblings, Mike worked tirelessly at the family shoe store, Mickey McGuire Shoes in Ajax, playing a vital role in its success. He was also a devoted caregiver to his parents in their later years, showing unwavering love, kindness, and generosity.

Michael had a long and respected career as a chief custodian with the Durham Catholic School Board, known for his strong work ethic and kindness. He enjoyed traveling with Pat—including their recent trip to England—watching sports, reading The Economist, and spending time with family.

Mike was known for his quick wit, beautiful smile, and the deep pride he had in his family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who offered kindness and support in the past few months as his health declined.

Service Details: A family Mass and celebration of life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Oak Ridges Hospice, Port Perry, Ontario.
