Ian McLean

September 23, 1942 - February 20, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Ian Crawford McLean (aka Angus McKay). Son of Hugh and Daisy, brother to Jack, Alister, and Rodey. Beloved husband to Mary Ann. Cherished father to Scott and Crystal (Mitch). Foster dad to Kevin, Hiroki, and Michael. Grandfather to Grace. Brother-in-law to Joe Anne Walters and Patrick Walters (Val). Uncle to many nieces and nephews. Lifelong friend of the Cantwell family.

Ian was devoted to his family and friends. Nothing made him happier than making them happy. He was a dedicated employee at Radiant Beauty Supplies for 40 years, always ready to get things done and share a laugh. Ian also worked in radio for 20 years at CKOC as Angus McKay. His love of music was lifelong and helped carry him through the past few years.

Ian also had a lifelong commitment to charitable work, lending a hand with various organizations such as the Hamilton Central Lions Club, Choices, and Burkholder United Church. Giving back was something that came naturally to him.

Ian’s life with Alzheimer’s was challenging. Although the disease progressed aggressively, he was still able to identify expressions of love, even if he did not recognize the individual. We extend our sincere appreciation for the guidance in managing his care throughout his illness. To the ALC unit at St. Joseph’s Hospital, we extend our deepest gratitude. The nurses, PSWs, doctors, specialists, and support staff made all the difference during the final stage of his disease. Thank you for keeping him dancing for as long as possible.

Ian lived a meaningful and grounded life. He never liked to complicate things. He had everything with his wife, family, and friends. He will be forever missed, always loved, and never forgotten.

Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Ian’s life will be held in June.

In lieu of flowers, donations to The Alzheimer’s Society or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
