April 27, 1935 – December 10, 2024

William Murray Metcalfe passed away peacefully at Extendicare Columbia Forest, Waterloo, on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at the age of 89. Predeceased by his beloved wife of 56 years, Shirley, in 2014.

Loving father of Shelley (Stephen Nantes) of Kitchener, Sherry (Robert) Swim of London, Randy (Kathy Behrendt) of Waterloo, and Cynthia (Daniel) Heisler of Cultus Lake, B.C. Cherished grandfather of Julia Nantes (Brent Dawe), Stephanie Nantes (Steven Long), Ainsley (Alex) McCarthy, and Reid Nantes (Hannah Scott); Mark Swim (Victoria Augustus), Laura (Alex) Nolan, Meghan (Ali) Escobar; Ashley Heisler (Cameron Longfellow) and Brydan Heisler. Proud great-grandfather of Everly, Siobhan, Rosamonde, and Sydney.

Dear brother of Glenn (Skip) Metcalfe (Joan, 2010). Brother-in-law of Mary Ellen (Dean, 2019) Anderson, Nancy (Blake, 2015) Anderson, Paul and Betty Anderson, and Steve and Pat Schultz. Murray will also be missed by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Allan and Alice Metcalfe.

Murray was born on April 27, 1935, in Toronto, Ontario. As a teenager, he moved with his family to Forest, where he met his future wife while attending high school. Murray and his brother Glenn owned and operated the Forest Home Bakery for 38 years. In his retirement, Murray enjoyed traveling, RVing, and creating beautiful wooden intarsia pieces.

Murray spent the last year of his life at Columbia Forest Long Term Care. The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers in Forest and Waterloo who supported Murray and made his life easier.

Funeral Service: Monday, December 16, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Denning’s Funeral Home, Forest, Ontario. A reception will follow the service. A private family interment will take place at Beechwood Cemetery.
