MOFFATT, Stanley Arthur

March 23, 1931 - December 29, 2024

It is with sadness that the family of Stanley Moffatt, age 93, announces that he peacefully passed away on December 29th at Lakeridge Health Oshawa. Stanley was predeceased by his beloved wife Agnes (Nan) Moffatt, in 2018.

He will be sadly missed by his daughters Julia (Shaun) and Lesley, and by granddaughters Emily (Brendan) and Claire (Brad). He was a special "Grandpa Stan" to Stephen (Michelle) and John (Jessica) Kalafatis.

Stanley was born in East Ham, London, the fifth of six children. His formative years were spent under the cloud of World War Two. He and two of his sisters were evacuated three times from 1940 to 1942 to escape the Blitz.

Stanley immigrated to Canada at the young age of 23 in June 1954, after having sailed aboard the RMS Newfoundland II from Liverpool, England.

After working on the Avro Arrow, Stanley went on to enjoy a successful career as an engineer at General Motors in Oshawa. He was a proud resident of Whitby and lived on Walnut Street for over 60 years.

Although Stanley's last few years were beset with health issues, he always answered anyone's query of "How are you?" with "Top of the world!" in his distinctive English accent.

Stanley had a keen interest in English football and was a lover of single-malt scotch. He was a lifelong (and long-suffering) fan of West Ham United Football Club. He kept the faith no matter how many times they broke his heart.

We would like to thank the staff and team of Nurses and Resident Care Partners at Amica, and Paramed, for their ongoing support and dedication. Special thanks to Diane for her compassionate care to Dad over the past 7 years.

As per Stanley's wishes, cremation has taken place, and there will be no service. Arrangements entrusted to THORNTON FUNERAL CENTRE (1200 Thornton Road North, Oshawa, 905-579-6787)
If desired, the family welcomes donations to the Whitby Hospice (hospicewhitby.ca), or the War Amps (www.waramps.ca).
