In Loving Memory
Peacefully with family by her side, we are sad to announce the passing of Geraldine (Gerry) Monnot (nee Becker) on Sunday, March 16, 2025. Predeceased by her beloved son Christopher (Sandy), parents Albert Floyd and Mary Belle Becker (nee McLeod), brother Donald Becker, infant sister Shirley Elizabeth, and Ray Monnot.
Loving mother of Sandra Gunn (Elliott) and Susan. Much loved grandmother to Ian, Olivia, Emma, and Jackson, and missed by nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Gerry, born in Roseville, Ontario on September 13, 1934, attended school at Galt Collegiate Institute, University of Western Ontario, BA, and Carleton University, MSW. Friends made in school became friends for life. A lifelong learner and student, her many interests included politics, sports, gardening, books, art, music, travel, theatre, and the beach. And she loved a good debate! Social justice and service to others were always at the forefront of everything she did. Her entire life, she was engaged with the world and with life - we learned so much from her.
Her work/professional life included the Children’s Aid Society of Ottawa and the Ottawa Carleton District School Board. As a social worker, her tireless efforts to advocate for children and families and justice for the underserved became a legacy of which she was very proud.
Gerry loved her family and her many dear friends and neighbours (Ottawa) who were so helpful over the years, as was her church family at Bells Corners United Church.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nursing, and PSW staff of Centenary Hospital 5th floor and Cancer Clinic for their care and kindness during her illness.
Cremation has taken place and there will be a private burial in Roseville Mennonite Cemetery. A celebration of her life will take place at a later date.
To honour Gerry, donations may be made to Bells Corners United Church (https://www.bcuc.org/giving), The Canadian Cancer Society, or UNICEF.
