Ian Gerard Murrant (Jerry) passed away peacefully on February 6, 2025, at age 72 in Oshawa. Born in Sault Ste. Marie to John and Alice Murrant, he graduated from Sault Collegiate and later attended the University of Ottawa, eventually earning two undergraduate degrees and a master’s degree.

Ian discovered a passion for teaching, which was only matched by his love for travel. After receiving his teaching accreditation from the University of Toronto, he returned many times for further studies in Computer Science and Mathematics, allowing him to teach in various countries around the world.

His teaching career took him to Loyalist and Sault Colleges in Canada, as well as locations in the Caribbean, Central America, Africa, and South America, where he spent much of his career.

Ian cherished good food, good drink, and the company of good friends. Sharing stories and laughter brought him the greatest joy. He had lifelong friendships in Sault Ste. Marie and around the world, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He was truly one of a kind, always asking for just five minutes more.

Ian is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 38 years, Elizabeth Murrant, his daughter Nicole Gardiner, his three granddaughters, and his brother Bob (Nora).
