George Eugene Nella

April 18, 1938 – March 4, 2025

Surrounded by his wife, daughters, and family, George passed away peacefully on March 4, 2025, in his 87th year.

George was born in Carisolo, Trentino-Alto Adige, in the Italian Alps, on April 18, 1938. He was the third of six children in a close-knit family. In 1952, the Nella family immigrated to Hamilton, Ontario, where George and his siblings quickly adapted to life in the Parkdale neighborhood of East Hamilton, helping their father, Antonio, build the family business.

George shared a deep love with his wife, Marisa, with whom he spent 59 wonderful years. Together, they grew Nella Cutlery in Mississauga, working side by side to build a lasting legacy. His greatest pride and joy were his children and celebrating their accomplishments.

A love for the outdoors was ingrained in George from his childhood in the mountains, and he passed that passion on to his children. Weekends were often spent skiing at Blue Mountain, and summers at the family cottage were filled with fishing, waterskiing, and joyful gatherings with extended family. His fondest memories included enjoying polenta and a glass of wine by the lake, sharing laughter and stories that will be cherished forever.

George is predeceased by his parents, Antonio and Ester. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Marisa; his children, Estelle and Donnie Gianfrancisco, Michelle and Jeff Morris, Mark and Laura Nella, and Robert and Denise Nella. He was an adoring nonno to Mila, Bronson, Ethan, Evan, Jakob, Melina, Aidan, and Gabriel.

He is also survived by his siblings: (late) Emilio and Lucy Nella, Gus and (late) Josephine Nella, (late) Elide and John Povinelli, Dina and Mario Sebben, and Tarcisio and Debra Nella, as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Billings Court Manor for their exceptional care, especially in George’s final days.

Funeral Details:
Visitation will be held at Smith’s Funeral Home, 454 Highway #8 (east of Millen Road), Stoney Creek (905-664-4222) on Monday, March 10, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM, with a Prayer Vigil at 6:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Eugene’s Roman Catholic Church, 232 Queenston Road (at Parkdale), Hamilton, on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at 11:00 AM. Cremation to follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Brant, Haldimand Norfolk, Hamilton Halton.
