David William Nelson

February 16, 2025

We are very sad to share that we lost our brother, uncle, nephew, and friend, David.
He passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2025, at the age of 61.
To our regret, his big heart couldn’t sustain the health challenges he faced over the last 18 months.

David leaves behind his brother Stephen (Kim), sister Alissa Chambers (Ian), and brother John (Joanne).
He was a cherished uncle to Sarah (Joshua), Daniel (Alisha), Caralynn, Claire (Erik), Jacob, Grace, and Alex (Surayya).
He will also be missed by his aunt, Ruth Curry, as well as his extended family and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, Donald and Nora.

Born in Thunder Bay, Ontario, David often caught his parents off guard with his rebellious and resourceful spirit.
Fearless and free to explore anything and everything—until it was time for dinner.

He was the embodiment of “thinking outside the box.”
It wasn’t surprising that his chosen career involved computers—a field that suited his agile mind and love of challenging conventions.
Workarounds were his playground, and he used them to progress his career with TD Bank for more than 20 years,
specializing in computer hardware storage and systems.
Sought after for this specialized knowledge, he accepted contracts after leaving TD, until he felt he had worked enough.
He valued his freedom and wanted to live on his own terms.

David liked to push boundaries and norms, but he was genuine, caring, and loyal.
He was a loving uncle with an outrageous sense of fun.
Well-read, he had advice for all situations (and opinions to match).
He was open to new ideas, so long as they could take his challenge, and he reveled in pushing your buttons.
A natural storyteller, he never hesitated to laugh at himself.

He loved movies and television, often catching onto the next big thing before anyone else.
Like his father, he loved to cook and entertain.
He cared deeply for those he loved and was generous with his time and resources.
If you needed him, he would be there. He has left a hole that won’t be filled. We miss him dearly.
