Velzora Irene Newman
December 8, 2024
It is with great sadness that the family of Velzora "Vel" Irene Newman announce her passing on Sunday, December 8, 2024, at the age of 92.
Velzora was born in Annandale, New Brunswick, and at the age of 16 moved to Toronto in 1948. She met her soon-to-be husband, Raymond Newman, at a church meeting, and they were married in 1953. She is the much-loved mother of Kim Ross (late Doug), Ken Newman (Shannon), Kevin Newman (Bonnie), and Kirby Newman (Abby). Cherished Nanny of Joe, (late) Kirk, Raymond, James, Holly, Justin, Krystal, Chantelle, Caitlin, Cassandra, and Brandon. Beloved great-grandmother of 20 and great-great-grandmother of 2; fondly known as "Nanny NewNew."
She is predeceased by her father, Albert Williams, and mother Hazel Williams (McLean). A beloved sister of the late Jessie McFawn, Muriel Newman, Reverend Lloyd Williams, Vernon Williams, Albert Williams, and five young siblings. Lovingly remembered by all her nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Velzora was known for her warmth, generosity, and the undeniable loving spirit she brought into the world. Everyone knew her door was always open to them, filled with kindness, board games, and baked goods. She was filled with a sense of adventure. Always making others laugh with her outrageous and exaggerated facial expressions and comical sayings, these memories will fill us with stories to share for many years. A beacon of unwavering friendship and kindness, Vel has left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Velzora will be deeply missed by all those that she's left behind. Our hearts are so broken by this loss. She was one of a kind, and to be loved by her was to be truly blessed. Her life exemplified the love she had for God. We rejoice that she is now resting in her eternal home.
