May 29, 1937 - October 10, 2024
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Leonard Robert Nicholl, aged 87, on Thursday, October 10, 2024, following a short battle with lung cancer. Len was born in Ballyrobert, County Antrim, Northern Ireland, and immigrated to Canada at the age of 15. After beginning his career with the Toronto District School Board, he joined the Naval Reserves while living in Toronto. Len later moved to Uxbridge, where he worked for Durham Region as a water and wastewater operator. Upon retirement, he and his wife Sandra relocated to Beaverton, where Len took up winemaking, sharing his creations with friends and family.
Len is survived by his loving wife, Sandra, his children Blair, Craig, and Robyn (Joe Fera), and his five grandchildren, Damon Nicholl, Shayln (Matt) Nicholl, Joey, Matthew, and Antonio Fera. He will also be missed by his sisters, Maureen (Norman) and Elizabeth (Bob), his many nieces and nephews, and his faithful dog, Ryu. Len was a dedicated community member, heavily involved in the Uxbridge Legion, where he served as president multiple times and was Drum Major of the Uxbridge Legion Pipe Band for 25 years.
A visitation will be held on Friday, October 18th, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 12:45 PM at Low & Low Funeral Home in Uxbridge, followed by a Legion service and funeral at 1:00 PM. A reception will take place at the Uxbridge Legion, 109 Franklin Street, following the service. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Cancer Care Centre at Southlake Regional Hospital for their compassionate care of Len.
In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Beaverton or the Uxbridge Legion Pipe Band would be greatly appreciated.
