CORNISH, Bill Cornish
July 4, 2026
We are deeply saddened by the passing of Bill “Turk” Cornish on Saturday, July 4, 2026 after a very courageous and lengthy battle facing cancer with remarkable strength and perseverance. Bill was born on May 13, 1939 and raised in Port Perry, the only child of Margaret and Roy H. Cornish. His beloved grandmother Eva Allin resided with them. Bill was the loved husband Norma (nee Jakeman) for 58 years. Proud and loving father of Clair Cornish (Brinley), Gretchen (Scott Senft) and Shawna (Travis Guindon). He cherished all the wonderful times spent with his grandchildren Noah, Hannah, Isla, and Fiona and due to their proximity, there were many. Dear brother-in-law of Winnie, Helen (deceased) and Harry (deceased). He will be missed by his nieces and nephews.
General Motors Disbursement Control Office was where Bill worked for forty-four years and upon his retirement, he then enjoyed working at Scugog Lumber for another sixteen years. He also took up mowing numerous lawns which would satisfy his quest for fitness and personal exercise.
Bill had a life-long love of passionately playing sports. His reminiscing of the various ball game innings, curling ends and hockey periods played was so entertaining, especially during conversations with his many visiting friends.
The family of Bill Cornish will receive friends at the WAGG FUNERAL HOME, “McDermott-Panabaker Chapel”, 216 Queen Street in Port Perry (985-2171) on Wednesday, July 8th from 5 – 8 p.m. A Service to celebrate his life will be held in the Port Perry United Church on Thursday, July 9th at 11 a.m. with Reverend David Clinker officiating. Interment Pine Grove Cemetery, Prince Albert. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Port Perry United Church Building Fund.
