HYRSKY, Mary Alice Hyrsky

Suddenly but peacefully, on Thursday, April 16, 2026, Mary “Alice” Hyrsky rests now in heaven, reunited with her husband John and all those who have gone before her, rejoicing in the peace and joy of Christ’s promise.

Loving wife of the late John for 54 years. Much-adored mom to Suzanne, Mike (Janice), Jo-Marie Fantham (late Bob), Patti Armstrong (Sean), and David. Special Gramma of Corey Murphy (Michelle), Mindy Strickland (Matt), Michael Murphy, John Hyrsky (Lacey), Joshua and Jordan Hyrsky, Robbie Fantham (Elizabeth), Alexa Fantham, Brad Fantham, Kyle Armstrong (Deanna), Patrick Armstrong (Tara), Daniel and Benjamin Hyrsky. Great-Gramma of Jaxon, Ethan, Cole, Sam, Max, Rhys, Kinsley, Theo, Kolton, Riley, Abygail, Lloyd, Katie, Aviana, Ellamae, Evelyn, Anna, and Drew.

Daughter of the late Mary and Charlie Thorp. Sister of the late Arleigh Unkefer (late Gil), the late David Thorp (late Dorothy), the late Flight Officer Burnham Thorp, the late Margaret Epple (late Stan), the late Jim Thorp (late Marion and late Elva), and the late Owen “Skip” Thorp (Gloria). Daughter-in-law of the late Michael and Hopka Hyrsky. Sister-in-law of the late William Hyrsky and the late Geno Hyrsky (Doreen). She was loved by many nieces and nephews and the love they shared with her was truly mutual and deeply felt. Alice also had a special place in her heart for her many cousins in Ohio.

Mary Alice Hyrsky took great pride in her family and loved each one with all her heart. She always wanted to know everything about each one because she cared so deeply for them. She was always treating her loved ones and friends to her homemade cookies, pies, and desserts—there was always something coming out of the oven. She had a gift for bringing family and friends together for great meals, weekends at the camp, special celebrations, and cherished holiday traditions. She will be remembered for her love of life, strength, generosity, faith, and the many memories she created with those fortunate enough to know her. Alice loved summers and she loved to be at her home away from home on the beautiful shore of Horseshoe Bay on Lake Superior with all her much-loved camp neighbours. Though she will be deeply missed, her spirit endures in the hearts of those who loved her.

Alice was a longtime parishioner of St. Veronica’s Church. She was a woman of deep faith whose life was rooted in prayer, compassion, and quiet service to others. Alongside her beloved husband John, she devoted many years to operating a food pantry in the west end of Sault Ste. Marie, providing nourishment and dignity to countless individuals and families. They also offered help and support to young pregnant women and mothers in need. A longtime and faithful member of the Catholic Women’s League, she also served as a dedicated Christmas Cheer coordinator, helping to bring hope and joy to many during the holiday season. Alice’s generosity knew no bounds—she was always ready to offer food, financial help, or even the warmth of her own home to those facing hardship. Her life was a reflection of selfless love, and she will be remembered as a truly remarkable woman whose kindness touched so many.

The family would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the amazing staff, nurses, personal support workers, and doctors at the Finnish Rest Home for the compassionate care and comfort they provided to Alice during her stay.
