LEGG, Edward John “Ted” Legg

It is with great sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Ted at the age of 87. He was born in Georgetown, British Guiana (Guyana), where his parents Max and Amy (nΓ©e Wilkie), were working at the time. They returned to Canada by boat when Ted was 5-weeks of age. In 1942, his father again ventured away to Trinidad and Tobago to help build the airport in Port of Spain, later working for Shell Oil and settling in Port Fortin. Ted attended grade school in Port Fortin and then Mount St. Benedict’s Abbey School.

At the age of 8 years, Ted returned to Canada to attend Loyola College, a Jesuit boarding school in Montreal. In 1953, Ted was reunited with his family upon their return to Canada, settling in Napanee. He graduated from Napanee District Secondary School before attending McGill University in Montreal. It was in Montreal where Ted met his life-long partner, Jennie (nΓ©e Smith). Ted worked for Dominion Glass Company while attending night school to finish his Bachelor of Commerce degree in 1973. They moved to Ottawa to work with Transport Canada until his retirement in 1993. Ted and Jennie then moved to Almonte in 2007 to live out their retirement.

Edward John “Ted” Legg goes to join his predeceased wife (2024) of 62 years, youngest son Michael (1991), sister Elizabeth (2021) and brother Bill (2022). He will be fondly remembered by his son David (Barb), his grandchildren Kellianne (Storm), and Chris (Heidi), step-grandchildren Tressa (Trevor), and Chad (Lyndsi), and four great-grandchildren Logan, Nova, Scottlyn and Sullivan. He also leaves behind his sister Mary, brothers David (Judith) and Jim, sister-in-law Jane (Conrad) and many more family, neighbours and longtime acquaintances.

Many thanks to Dr. Ray, Dr. Almeida and the staff at the Ottawa Valley Family Health Team and the Almonte General Hospital.

A Celebration of Life will take place later this Summer.
