SMITH, Mildred Smith

She passed away peacefully at Brightshores Health System – Owen Sound on Friday, April 17, 2026. Born in Holland Township on February 6, 1933, Mildred Minerva Julia Smith (nee Legate) of Owen Sound was in her 94th year.

Beloved wife of the late Robert Smith. Loving mother of Michael Smith of Owen Sound. Cherished grandma of 7 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Dear mother-in-law of Marilyn Smith of Owen Sound. Dear sister-in-law of Bill Smith, Betsy Kennedy (Roger), Ronald Smith (Wendy), Barry Smith (Joy), and Barb Brough. Mildred will also be missed by her many nieces, nephews and friends.

Predeceased by her children Doug Smith (Marie) and Brian Smith, parents William and Minerva Legate, siblings Calvin Legate (Roseanne), William Legate, Kathleen Osbourne (Bill), Shirley Legate and Verna Ford, her siblings-in-law Sandi Smith and Gordon Brough, and by her daughter-in-law Linda Smith.

Mildred loved spending time with her family whenever possible and took pride in seeing everyone grow and live life to the fullest. She was a lifetime member of the Lutheran Church of Our Saviour in Owen Sound, and loved being an active member of the Church’s community.

In keeping with Mildred’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at Brian E. Wood Funeral Home, 250 14th St. W., Owen Sound, 519-376-7492, on Saturday, June 27, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with words of remembrance at 12:00 p.m. Interment will take place in Greenwood Cemetery.
