WILLIAMS, Helen Joan Williams
February 23, 1946 - April 11, 2026In Loving Memory Of Helen Williams
Helen Joan Williams(née Pyper), born February 23, 1946, in Toronto, Ontario, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2026, in Oshawa.
She was the beloved daughter of Vera Poole and John Earl Pyper (RCAF), and part of the proud baby boomer generation born at the end of the Second World War. Helen was predeceased by her husband Richard and her younger brother Gary.
Helen grew up in the Greenwood and Danforth area of Toronto and attended Eastern Commerce Collegiate. From a young age, she had a deep love for the arts, especially music, dance, and fine arts.
She met the love of her life, Richard Williams, through a mutual friend. Their young romance included Richard picking her up from high school, followed by sweet stops for ice cream at St. Clair Dairy. They became engaged at Christmas in 1962 and were married in May 1963, beginning a lifelong partnership filled with love and devotion.
Together, they raised two daughters, Debbie and Lisa. While dedicating herself to her family as a homemaker, Helen also ran home daycare for many years, caring for and nurturing countless children. Later, she returned to the workforce, taking on various roles including school cafeteria worker, cake decorator at Miracle Mart, and worked as a telephone operator at an answering service.
In 1977, the family took their first trip to Florida to visit Disney World—a place that quickly became one of Helen’s favorites. She loved Florida so much that it became a regular vacation destination over the years.
Helen found immense joy in her role as a grandmother to Evan, Morgan, and Jonah. She rarely missed their sporting events, dance recitals, and birthdays, always celebrating their milestones and, of course, spoiling them whenever she could.
In retirement, Helen and Richard moved to Parkview Place in Oshawa. There, she remained active in her community—volunteering with the Seniors Day Program at the John Street OSCC, running bingo alongside Richard, participating in line dancing, and enjoying her many crafting projects. Helen greatly enjoyed living at Parkview Place, where she made many dear friends over the years. She especially cherished participating in community activities such as bingo, euchre, and social dinners.
In recent years, Helen embraced a fun and adventurous side. When her granddaughter Morgan pursued a career as a tattoo artist, Helen was thrilled—having always wanted a tattoo herself. True to her spirited nature, she went on to get 14 tattoos in just three years, all with a beach theme—mermaids, dolphins, and sand dollars. She wore them proudly and often joked that she had become a “badass grandma.”
Helen will be deeply missed by her daughters, Debbie, and Lisa; her cherished grandchildren; her sister-in-law Verna and her two sons; and family Irene, Ray, and Rachel.
Her warmth, humour, and vibrant spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
In accordance with Helen’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. She has been cremated, and her remains will be laid to rest at Pine Hills Cemetery, in the Pyper family grave alongside her parents.
