Jan Oegema

August 20, 1931 - September 14, 2024

Jan passed away peacefully with family by his side at the age of 93 years.

Predeceased by the love of his life, Thea Teertstra (2013), daughter Sandra Clark (2023), and granddaughter Veronica (1984). Loving father of Dianne (Bert), Jack (Janet), and Jeff (Debbie).

Survived by sister Baukje Vanlingen (Kingston) and brother Bart (Netherlands). Predeceased by sister Jeltje Gros-Oegema (2010) and brother Jacob (1994).

Jan immigrated to Canada in 1950. He believed in hard work and found he preferred to be his own boss. A self-taught carver, upon retirement he spent more time perfecting his techniques and teaching classes until he moved into Bowmanville Creek Retirement Home.

Jan believed in hard work, generosity of time and resources, and loved greatly. Jan had a big heart and would share his time and talents with anyone. The whole world was dad's friend. Though Jan had many passions over his life, family and friends were always #1.

We would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Lottering, the nurses, and support staff at Bowmanville Creek for the amazing care they gave Dad. They gave us the strength we needed to support him.
