Kowal OliveKOWAL, Olive

September 17, 1922 - November 23, 2023

With great sadness, but deep appreciation for her longevity and loving impact on many people, the family of Olive Kowal announces that her life journey has ended in its 101st year.

Olive was predeceased by her beloved husband, Paul; and is survived by her children, Joanna (Robert) and Greg (Karin); and her grandchildren, Stephen (Anita), Emma, and Matthew (Kali).

Olive emigrated from Ukraine as a young girl and grew up in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

She was deeply involved in the Ukrainian-Canadian community and remained proud of her heritage throughout her life.

She often participated in community events. It was at one of these events that Olive met her husband, Paul. They knew immediately that they were meant for one another and soon married.

With Joanna's arrival and then Greg's, Mom dedicated herself to her home and family.

With her husband an officer in the Canadian Forces, Mom made a home in many locations, including a four-year stint in Germany. There, Mom learned to speak the language well enough to carry on a conversation.

Once back in Canada, Mom volunteered at her local church, where she looked after the sacristy.

As well, Mom was asked to act as secretary for Winnipeg's Ukrainian Women's Federation (UWF) because she was fluent in both Ukrainian and English.

be missed. Her family extends their heartfelt gratitude to her HomeInstead caregivers for their kindness and support over her final years, and to the wonderful staff at Parkland on the Glen.

Visitation will be from 10:30 - 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, with liturgy at 11:00 a.m. and reception to follow at noon. The location is Turner and Porter Funeral Home, 1981 Dundas St. W., Mississauga, Ontario.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Ukrainian Canadian Congress or a Charity of Your Choice would be appreciated.

Mom, we love you. Your spirit will live forever in our hearts.
