Bassett BarbaraBASSETT, Barbara Martha (nee FERGUSON)   -  July 7, 1937 – July 30, 2022

It is with a deep sense of loss that we announce the passing of Barbara Martha Bassett, in her 86th year, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Predeceased by her best friend, loving husband and dance partner, Douglas Bassett (2000); and her parents, Charles and Sheila Ferguson.

Barb loved her family: she was a devoted mother to David (Heather White) and Susan Bassett; a loving sister to Richard and Harold (Heather) Ferguson; a caring aunt to Colin Ferguson (Louise), Lindsay Ralph (Andrew), and great-nephew, Caleb; sister-in-law to Joan and Brian Trapnell; and aunt to Doug, Shaun, Tim (predeceased) and Mary Jane Sexton; cousin to Gail McEwen (Doug), Heather St. Arnaud (Steve), Stirling and Malcolm Reid (Shalhevit).

Born in Montreal, Barb relocated to Toronto where she attended Leaside High School. Participation in the high school and church choirs began her lifelong passion for singing.

Barb married the love of her life, Doug Bassett, on October 4, 1958.

They spent many happy hours roller skating in Toronto; a passion that soon became a successful business: The Roundabout Rink in Hamilton.

In 1978, Barb and Doug relocated their family and The Roundabout to Barrie.

The family would like to express their deep gratitude to Barb's Grand Place family (The Fairbarns and The Barkers); her choral sisters in the Barrie Sound Waves; and friends at Collier Street United Church.

As well, a heartfelt thanks to Dr. Kozanczyn, the staff at Allandale Station Retirement Residence, and the angels on earth at Hospice Simcoe. At Barb's request, cremation has taken place with no service to follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Hospice Simcoe, Royal Victoria Hospital or Collier United Church, in her memory.
