OPHEL, Beth May -  1925-2015

Beth passed away on Friday, September 11, 2015 in Toronto in her 90th year.

She had a rich and full life.

She rejoiced in her far-flung family whom she visited frequently.

Beth loved the natural world around her and she met friends, both new and old, with a warm, open heart and a remarkable curiosity and generosity.

She emigrated with her husband, Ivan, from Adelaide, Australia in 1953 to join the newly established scientific community at AECL in Deep River, Ontario. Ivan died in 1983 and although she missed him terribly, she then built an independent life focused on her extended family and many friends in the community.

Along with a passion for travelling, she was active in library volunteer work, bridge, smocking and her book club as an avid and eclectic reader. Beth will be missed by her children and their spouses, Ann and David Peters, Judy Ophel and John Osmond, David and Lisa Ophel and Kathy Ophel-Keller and Mike Keller.

She was an important part of her grandchildren's lives and they will cherish their beloved 'ShineO' - Stephanie, Sarah, Jamie, Matthew, Emily, Lindsay, Jasper, Megan, Erica and Laurel.

The family extends our appreciation to the wonderful staff of the 3rd floor of Houses of Providence who made her comfortable during the last two and a half years.

A memorial service will be held at the Humphrey Funeral Home, 1403 Bayview Avenue from 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 8 followed by a reception.

If desired, donations can be made to the Providence Healthcare Foundation.
