It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David Joseph Paul Shields at the age of 92. Born in Ottawa on April 20, 1932, to Allan and Mary Shields, David passed away peacefully on November 24, 2024, at the Viva Barrhaven Retirement Home.
David is survived by his children Colleen (David Macdonell), Stephen (Angela), and Gregory (Yulia); his grandchildren Caitlin, Scott, Julia, Cameron, Liam, Gregory, Sydney, Aiden, and Allan; and his great-grandchildren Amelia and Declan, who will deeply miss their Poppa. He is also survived by his brother Peter and sister Patricia Jane, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his beloved son Gordon (Rhonda), his brother John, and sister Carole Bowman.
David had a lifelong passion for sports, excelling as both a football player and a referee, officiating at all levels, including the CFL. His contributions to the sport were recognized with national awards and co-authoring the Canadian Amateur Football Rule Book. He was also an avid golfer who cherished time on the course.
Professionally, David was a printer by trade and served as the local president of the Graphic Arts International Union. Known for his fairness and formidable negotiation skills, he earned respect from both members and employers alike.
David’s larger-than-life personality, witty quips, and wry grin will be dearly missed by his family and friends. His family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the Viva Barrhaven Retirement Home for their kindness and support over the past six years.
A private family interment will take place at Capital Memorial Gardens in December, with a celebration of life to follow in 2025.
LAVOY, William James 'Bill' - Passed away at home with his family by his side on Monday, February 29, 2016 at the age of 80.
He loved a good laugh and a good game of golf, and was still courting his wife of 50 years, Bonita (nee Seigel).
Bill leaves two sons, Rick and Kerry (Debbie nee Kaspardlov), 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Predeceased by parents John and Marion Lavoy and brothers Durward and Wilson. Survived by sister Edna Mackey (of McArthurs Mills).
He worked 32 years for Bell Canada. A kind, patient and resourceful man, Bill enjoyed meeting new friends along the way.
A Celebration of Bill's life with friends and family in his honour will be held at Hamilton Hall, 148 Renfrew St., Pembroke on Saturday, March 5th from 2 to 4:00 p.m. All are welcome, and bring your sense of humour.

LOWE, Shirley Margaret - Peacefully at the Smiths Falls Hospital on Monday, February 29, 2016 in her 69th year.
Loving mother of Brenda (Todd Whyte), David (Temple) Jansen. Cherished grandmother of Makayla, Mackenzie, Nicholas and Lily.
Dear sister of Ross (Janet) Lowe and Joyce (Gary Johnston). Predeceased by her parents Frank and Gertrude Lowe and by her sisters Audrey and Sheila.

GRAHAM, Marion 'Marnie' - (1957 - 2016) - Passed away on February 29, 2016 in Ottawa, Ontario.
Beloved wife of Malcolm. Devoted mother to Kiara Daly-Frey (Adam) and Caelum.
Marnie will be always be cherished by her Mom, Marion Mills, and siblings Kathy Zador (George), Karen Button (Dennis Sparks), Kevin Mills (Valerie), and Kent Mills (Julie Preston).
Marnie was a favourite aunt to Tim Button (Gillian), Lesli Zador (Tom Flinn) , Claire Matthews (Geoff), Lindsay Zador (Glen Coombs), Alex Mills, Alison Mills and Cameron Mills and a Great-Aunt to Brynn and Blythe Matthews, Tristan Button and Connor Coombs.
Marnie will also be fondly remembered by Malcolm’s family in the UK, his mother, Margaret and siblings, Richard, Julie, Francis, Sandra, and Linda.
Marnie was predeceased by her Dad, Frank Mills, and Father-in-law Bill Delaney. Marnie will be deeply missed by her nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Following her birth in 1957, Marnie was raised in Goderich. Her formative years were spent swimming, boating and fishing.
When her family moved to rural Huron County, Marnie became involved in 4 H and Junior Farmers.
A graduate of Goderich District Collegiate Institute, Marnie pursued post-secondary studies at Sir Wilfrid Laurier, Laurentian, and University of Windsor culminating in a Bachelor of Arts in French and English, and a Bachelor of Education with French as a Second Language.
Her love of language led her to French Immersion courses in Québec at Trois Pistoles, La Pocatière, and Rivière du Loup as well as l’université d’Ottawa and l’université de Nice in France.
Marnie’s teaching career was in Renfrew County with her last teaching years in the Ottawa Carleton District School Board at Jack Donohue Public School.
Marnie and Malcolm met in 1984 and raised Kiara and Caelum in Kanata and Carp. The welcome mat was always out for friends and family and Marnie truly was the ‘perfect’ host - friendly, kind, generous and accommodating.
During their 30 years of marriage, their favourite travels were to southwestern Ontario to holiday with Marnie’s family. The family’s Westie was always along on their road trips.
Loyal and loving, Marnie will be remembered for her twinkling eyes, spirited conversations, perceptive insights and endless curiosity.
Most recently Marnie has benefited from programs and new friendships through the Maplesoft Centre of the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation and Hospice Care Ottawa.
Friends may pay their respects at Kelly Funeral Home - Kanata Chapel, Kanata, Ontario after 11:00am on Saturday, March 5th.
A Memorial Service for Marnie will follow at 12:00pm, in the Chapel. Interment of the urn in Strathroy, Ontario, at a later date.
Memorial donations to Myeloma Canada, the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation (Maplesoft Centre) or Hospice Care Ottawa (Ruddy Shenkman Hospice) are appreciated.
